Who Is Vaishnavi Roberson, Ph.D.?

Portrait of Vaishnavi Roberson, Ph.D., standing on a wooden bridge surrounded by nature, representing her lifelong journey of integrating ancient Vedic wisdom with modern psychological insight.

Ancient wisdom has always asked humanity the same enduring questions:

Who am I? Why am I here? How do I live wisely?

For more than fifty years, these questions have guided my own life of study, practice, and service. My work today grows naturally from that lifelong journey.

I am a Vedic astrologer, Vedic counselor, teacher, Ayurvedic practitioner, and former licensed clinical psychologist. Through Vedic Counseling Solutions, I help people understand themselves more deeply and apply timeless Vedic wisdom to modern life.

What Makes My Approach Unique?

My work is not primarily about teaching Vedic sciences. It is about helping people cultivate discernment through the lens of ancient Vedic wisdom so they can respond more wisely to life.

While Jyotish offers one powerful lens for understanding life, it is only one part of a much larger tradition. I draw from the broader Vedic wisdom traditions to help people understand themselves more deeply, navigate life's opportunities and challenges with greater clarity, and embody timeless spiritual principles in practical, everyday ways.

I believe discernment is the bridge between knowledge and wisdom, and wisdom becomes transformative only when it is lived.

How Did My Work Evolve?

My journey into the Vedic wisdom traditions began in 1975 when I learned to meditate and immersed myself in the study and practice of Vedic knowledge. Several years later, I entered graduate school in clinical psychology. From the beginning, I found myself living in two worlds that, at the time, were rarely seen as compatible.

As I studied both traditions, I was continually asking the same question: How do these two ways of understanding human experience relate to one another? Throughout my career as a psychologist, I sought to integrate the insights of modern psychology with the deeper understanding of consciousness, human development, and spiritual evolution offered by the Vedic tradition. Long before integrative approaches became more widely accepted, this exploration shaped both my personal life and my professional practice.

Over time, I came to describe myself as an integrative psychologist because my work increasingly reflected both perspectives. While psychology remained the center of my professional practice, my study and personal practice of meditation, Jyotish, Ayurveda, yoga philosophy, and the broader Vedic wisdom traditions continued to deepen year after year.

After retiring from clinical psychology, the center of my work naturally shifted. Today, through Vedic Counseling Solutions, my work brings together more than fifty years of Vedic study and practice with more than thirty-five years of professional psychological experience. Rather than leaving one path for another, my work represents the continuing integration of both, now viewed primarily through the lens of timeless Vedic wisdom.

What Shapes My Teaching?

My teaching is grounded in more than five decades of study and practice within the Vedic wisdom traditions and more than thirty-five years of professional psychological experience.

Over the years, I have studied extensively with respected teachers including Dr. Vasant Lad, Maya Tiwari, Dr. David Frawley, Sam Geppi, Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar, and through the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Professional programs inspired by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. These teachings continue to inform my understanding of Jyotish, Ayurveda, yoga philosophy, meditation, and Vedic Counseling.

Equally important, life itself has been my greatest teacher. Every consultation, every class, every challenge, and every season of growth continues to deepen my appreciation for the practical relevance of these timeless teachings.

What Can You Expect When Working with Me?

Whether we meet in an individual consultation, a mentoring relationship, a community gathering, or through my writing, my intention is always the same: to create a thoughtful, respectful space where deeper understanding can emerge.

My role is not to provide all the answers, but to illuminate possibilities, offer perspective, and help you cultivate greater confidence in your own capacity for wise and compassionate living. I bring these teachings together through the Rebel Mystic™ Path, my signature framework for helping people cultivate discernment, align with dharma, and apply timeless Vedic wisdom to modern life.

My work is grounded in a simple conviction: I believe that wisdom becomes transformative only when it is lived. My hope is that everyone who works with me develops greater trust in their own capacity for discernment, recognizing that life's questions are not simply problems to solve, but opportunities for growth, understanding, and conscious living.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you begin studying the Vedic wisdom traditions?

My journey began in 1975 when I learned to meditate and was introduced to the Vedic wisdom traditions. What began as a personal spiritual practice became a lifelong path of study, practice, and inquiry. More than fifty years later, I continue to study because these teachings offer profound insight into consciousness, human development, and the practical art of living with greater clarity, discernment, and compassion.

How does your background in psychology influence your work today?

Although I am retired from the practice of clinical psychology, more than thirty-five years of professional experience continue to shape how I listen, ask questions, and support others. My work today is centered in the Vedic wisdom traditions rather than psychotherapy, while my psychological background helps me communicate these teachings in practical, compassionate, and accessible ways.

Do you still practice as a psychologist?

No. I retired from the practice of clinical psychology after more than thirty-five years. Today, my professional work is devoted entirely to Vedic Counseling, Jyotish (Vedic Astrology), Ayurveda, yoga philosophy, spiritual mentoring, teaching, writing, and community education through Vedic Counseling Solutions.

Why did you create Vedic Counseling Solutions?

Vedic Counseling Solutions grew naturally from my lifelong effort to integrate the insights of modern psychology with the timeless wisdom of the Vedic tradition. After retiring from clinical psychology, I created Vedic Counseling Solutions as a professional home where Vedic wisdom could become the primary lens through which I help people cultivate greater clarity, discernment, and alignment with dharma.

What makes your approach different from other Vedic astrologers?

While Jyotish is an essential part of my work, it is only one expression of the broader Vedic wisdom traditions. I integrate Vedic Counseling, Ayurveda, yoga philosophy, meditation, and decades of psychological experience to help people recognize their deeper nature and live with greater clarity, discernment, and alignment with dharma.

Rather than focusing primarily on prediction, I use the birth chart as a guide for understanding life's lessons and cultivating the highest expression of the potentials reflected in each person's chart.

Today, I bring this integrative approach together through the Rebel Mystic™ Path™, my signature framework for helping people cultivate discernment, align with dharma, and apply timeless Vedic wisdom to modern life.

Why do you emphasize discernment?

I believe discernment is one of the most important capacities we can cultivate in today's rapidly changing world. Information alone does not create wisdom. Discernment helps us recognize what is true, respond rather than react, and align our decisions with our deepest values and dharma. For me, discernment is the bridge between knowledge and wisdom—and wisdom becomes transformative only when it is lived.

Why do you call your work Vedic Counseling rather than coaching?

Because my work is grounded in the broader Vedic wisdom traditions rather than a coaching model. Our conversations are practical and future-oriented, while drawing upon timeless teachings that emphasize discernment, self-understanding, and alignment with dharma rather than simply achieving external goals.

Wherever you are on your path, I invite you to continue exploring the wisdom of the Vedic tradition in whatever way feels most meaningful to you.
